3D-Printed Veggie Garden Labels

It’s been a while since I last posted, it’s been a busy year! I thought I would come back and share a project I completed last spring/summer.

My friends (a couple) decided to start a garden last spring in their new apartment together. As a housewarming gift, I thought I would make little vegetable labels. It was a fun project and I had a blast designing the labels in Rhino, then printing on my Prusa. There were 8 different types of vegetables they were growing:

  • Zucchini
  • Squash
  • Snap Peas
  • Bell Pepper
  • Basil
  • Pepper
  • Tomato
  • Onion

I came up with the designs using linework in Rhino:

And extruded to create the 3D models:

And finally created the STLs (here’s basil):

For the first time around, I did print my mom a tomato and a pepper, which I tried painting (I think the paint looks quite bad, I prefer just the white material). I printed them in ABS, and the pepper label received an acetone vapor bath (you can see the smoothness in comparison to the tomato label.

And then for my friends, the whole set:

Anyways, it was a fun hobby project that got me to do some design outside of work! If you would like to download the STLs, they can be found on Thingiverse here: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4229820
